SOME STATISTICS
FROM IAN (after Easts match)
Quite simply
we were awesome on Saturday, which was welcome relief after our
last two efforts (Taroona and Launceston). Prior to that, we had
two very good wins and were CHEATED by the ref in the other. Some
stats that you might find useful - we scored 11 tries and conceded
3, conceded 2 penalty goals and scored 3 and received 4 yellow cards
vs 1 for the opposition. Don't ask for the number of penalties that
we conceded in 3 games, but let me assure you that the count is
high!!! Ian H.
GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP
Congrats to: Pub golf champion
Special mention for Scot (Buddha), one of our supporters, for winning
the pub golf with 9 Holes in one. Victory came at a price, Buddha
was found passed out in the toilet with spew all over him 30 minutes
after lifting the trophy.
PANTING PENSIONERS
ROAD TRIP
Sat May 12th saw a creaking minibus make its way unwaveringly through
the fog of the central highlands towards the mecca of Burnie. On
board was pound-for-pound (and there were lots of them) the greatest
players ever to grace a rugby field
all cleverly
disguised as a Uni 2s side. Our mission was to de-throne the
mighty men of Burnie and return to base incapable of speech or vision.
We failed the first objective, only just, and ably assisted by the
Ref, going down 17 -15 at the death having led throughout. There
were fine performances though from the old {Ben, Kube, Winkle, Ellis,
Jack) and the young (Nath, John P., Max, Bert). The latter
seem destined for higher things because we were stupid enough to
bring the first team coach with us.
On a happier note the second objective was obtained with some vigor
and with no casualties save some burns to the rear area of A.Miller.
End of Season
Tour to Melbourne?
Are
members interested in a rugby tour to Melbourne? All members welcome
(there are plenty of roles such as water boys, players, mentors,
supporters). A Rugby tour is an event you shall treasure for the
rest of your life. If you might be interested can you let one of
the committee members know so we can start arranging.
The Cougar
Cup (14.04.07)
20
lads made the long trip up to the party town of Devonport for some
champagne rugby. In the round robin tournament Uni secured top spot
and a place in the final. In a carnival like atmosphere Uni were
involved in a rugby thriller with the game going to the wire against
Launceston. Both teams scored two tries but Launceston slotted one
conversion. 12-10 the game ended.
Well done to all the boys that made the trip up. A special thanks
to Kube for driving the bus and Wayne for coaching.
It was reported the police at Ross cornered off a crime scene late
Saturday night. The local inspector reported that evidence had
been found in rolled up burnt newspaper. The evidence has been sent
to police labs to try and identify the culprits. If anyone has any
information that could assist in the investigation please do not
hesitate to call rugby crime stoppers.
